Session change

What it is
Percentage move of the price since the previous close. It's the intraday move — useful to see if the session is calm or volatile, but says nothing about fundamental value.
How to read it
A ±0.5% to ±2% move is normal. Beyond that, there's usually a reason: earnings, news, macro event, sector move. Always look for the cause before reacting — a −8% with no news is different from a −8% after an earnings miss.

- Calm session< ±1%
- Normal move±1 – ±3%
- Notable move — find the cause±3 – ±5%
- Major move — event> ±5%
Orders of magnitude, not a rule: the same number does not mean the same thing from one sector to the next.
What it does not tell you
A single session's change is noise for medium-long term investors. Never build a thesis on intraday move. But watching atypical moves can reveal information you haven't captured yet.
