What it is
Sum of market capitalizations of all listed cryptocurrencies (~10,000 tokens). Expressed in trillions of dollars ($T). Gives a measure of crypto market "size" vs gold, equities, real estate.
How to read it
For comparison: gold represents ~$15T, S&P 500 ~$50T, US residential real estate ~$50T. A crypto cap of $1-2T makes it an emerging but marginal asset vs traditional classes. Cap growth is a barometer of institutional adoption.

Orders of magnitude, not a rule: the same number does not mean the same thing from one sector to the next.
What it does not tell you
Total caps include lots of illiquid tokens — multiplying "circulating supply" by market price massively overstates real liquidity. Real cap (free float × price) is probably 30-50% lower.
