20-day moving average
MA 20d
What it is
The 20-day moving average smooths prices over the last 4 trading weeks. It captures short-term trend and often acts as dynamic support/resistance for swing traders.
How to read it
Price above the MA20 signals a positive short-term trend; below, negative. The MA20 is more reactive than the MA50 — it crosses price more often, making it tight (but noisy) timing.
Common reference points
- Bullish short-term trendPrice > MA20
- Bearish short-term trendPrice < MA20
Orders of magnitude, not a rule: the same number does not mean the same thing from one sector to the next.
What it does not tell you
Too short to identify a fundamental trend. Use it as a short-term risk-management line, not a long-term thesis signal.
