Rate of Change
ROC 14d
What it is
The Rate of Change (ROC) measures the percent change in price over 14 days. It's the rawest momentum gauge: it simply tells you how fast the stock is accelerating or decelerating versus two weeks ago.
How to read it
A positive, rising ROC = bullish momentum accelerating. ROC crossing below zero = short-term trend reversing. The bigger the magnitude, the more violent the move (in either direction).
Common reference points
- Strong bullish acceleration> +10%
- Bullish momentum+5 to +10%
- Neutral / consolidation-5 to +5%
- Bearish momentum-10 to -5%
- Strong deceleration< -10%
Orders of magnitude, not a rule: the same number does not mean the same thing from one sector to the next.
What it does not tell you
ROC is volatile and noisy on choppy names. A ROC spike says nothing about durability. Cross-check with volume: strong ROC without volume is suspect.
